Renovating from abroad: how it works with Home Team

Renovating from abroad: how it works with Home Team

You live in another country and your home is in the south of Gran Canaria. Here is how we renovate it while you are away.

Many of our clients live abroad

You have an apartment, a bungalow or a villa in the south of Gran Canaria. You spend part of the year here and part of the year in another country. The home needs a new kitchen, a new bathroom or a complete renovation. You cannot stay on the island for the whole time the building work takes.

That is normal for us. Many of our clients live abroad. The building work can go ahead while you are at home in your own country. This guide explains how it works, step by step, from the first message to the handover.

The first contact: a message and a few photos

Most owners start with a message on WhatsApp. You can write to us in your own language. In person, the team speaks English and Spanish.

Tell us what you would like to change, and send a few photos of the rooms. Photos help us understand your home before anyone visits. If you write to us through the website, Alma, our AI assistant, answers at any hour in your language and passes you to a person from the team.

A person from the team then contacts you to arrange the free visit.

The free visit and the written quote

We visit the property, listen to what you want and take the measurements. The visit is free and you have no obligation.

You do not have to fly over just for this. There are two ways to do it:

  • Someone you trust opens the door for us and walks through the home with us, while you follow by phone or message.
  • We arrange the visit for a day when you are next on the island, so you can be there yourself.

After the visit you receive a written quote. It sets out the price, what is included and the dates. Nothing is left to a conversation you have to remember later. For pools and larger projects, you also see a 3D design before the building work starts, so you decide from a plan and not on site.

If your project needs a licence from the town hall, the written quote says which one. We prepare the documents and apply for it for you.

One person responsible for your project

Before anything begins, we agree the start date, the order of the building work and the materials with you. Then the building work starts.

From the first visit to the handover, one person is responsible for your project on the island. This is the person you talk to. You do not need to call several tradespeople or find out who is doing what. Our partner team on site does the work, and your contact person manages it.

If your apartment is in a community, we respect the community's rules on working hours and noise. When it is needed, we coordinate with the administrator.

As the building work moves on, your contact person keeps you informed with photos and reports, on WhatsApp or by phone. You can see your new kitchen cabinets going in, or the tiles going on the bathroom walls, from wherever you are.

Decisions by message, and the handover

During a renovation there are always small choices to make. Which tap. Where a socket goes. Which shade of grey for the grout. When a choice comes up, we send you the question and, where it helps, a photo. You answer by message when it suits you. Your decision is then clear in writing for everyone.

When the work is finished, we check it together with you. If you are on the island, we walk through the home with you. If you are not, we agree with you how the check is done. Then you receive the keys to your renovated home.

Some owners like to plan the building work so the home is ready for their next stay. Tell us when you plan to come back, and we take it into account when we agree the dates with you.

The next step

Send us a message on WhatsApp with a few photos of your home and tell us what you would like to change. Tell us when you are next on the island, or who can open the door for us. A person from the team will contact you to arrange the visit. The visit and the written quote are free, and you have no obligation.
